Ski, Apres Ski, Sleep….Repeat.
Montana’s landscape is a year-round playground for outdoor enthusiasts that beckons to be explored. Winter is a celebrated time of year in Glacier Country, and the festivities commence with “Pray for Snow Parties,” (seriously- it’s a thing).
It’s been a well-kept secret but the official word is out…Whitefish Mountain Resort has been named by SKI Magazine readers as the top resort in the west for “Overall Satisfaction” in this year’s debut of the magazine’s “Resort of the Year” issue.
The mountain will open December 10, 2020 and the season will continue through April 11, 2021. The ranch is open year-round and we’d love nothing more than to have you kick off your ski boots and stay with us during your ski holiday. We invite you to book a room in our main lodge or if you prefer the rustic luxury of a log cabin check out our charming cabin suites! While at the ranch you can soak in our outdoor hot tub, take a sleigh ride, cozy up by the fire, and it’s only a short 12-mile drive to Whitefish Mountain!
Now, let’s yard sale (ski lingo for a wipe out) into our 5 reasons why Whitefish Mountain Resort is the best in the “skidom”.
1) Powder…and plenty of it.
Our pray for snow parties produce an impressive 300+ inches of fluffy, white goodness (last year we reached 400″). And guess what, it’s the fat, soft, stick-your-tongue-out-to-catch kind which is all the more fun for playing in. We basically live in a snow-globe.
The mountain is huge (hence the nickname “Big Mountain”) 3,000 acres to be exact and it’s not overrun with humans. This means no lift lines which equals more time getting your vertical.
3) snow ghosts
These hauntingly striking snow formations resemble something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. Snow ghosts are found towards the summit of the mountain and are an accumulation of rime ice on the pine trees. Skiing and snowboarding among the snow ghosts is unforgettable.
4) local charm
Whitefish Mountain Resort and the vibrant resort town of Whitefish are simply oozing with character. The mountain offers first class skiing with an unpretentious and festive vibe remaining true to its laid-back Montana roots. Tourists who share a chairlift with welcoming locals will ski away with invaluable tips on how to experience the best of Whitefish.
5) apres- ski
Because what you do after skiing is just as important as the sport itself. Skiers can choose from a variety of restaurants and bars located right on the mountain each offering unique ambiance, flavor, and refreshment lineup. To name a few- families will love the fast casual atmosphere at Ed & Mully’s, ski bums will be in their element at the Bierstube, and foodies craving 5-star cuisine can sit fireside at Kandahar Lodge. We’ll cheers to that!
So I realize that’s five reasons, but I was just getting warmed up! I didn’t get a chance to mention the FREE and seriously convenient S.N.O.W. BUS*, which shuttles people to and from town to the mountain. Skiers and snowboarders will also appreciate not having to break the bank, Whitefish Mountain Resort is incredibly affordable, with lift tickets priced at $85 per day for adults and special pricing for seniors, youth, and free skiing for kiddos under 6 years! I also should give a shout out to night skiing, and how could I forget to mention the infamous inversion? I clearly should have made this post “10 Reasons to Hit the Slopes at Whitefish Mountain Resort.”
Couples, families, solo travelers, and groups will enjoy adventure by day, and relaxing hospitality by night during their Whitefish winter getaway! Let us help you plan a winter vacation and you’ll discover that paradise doesn’t have to be tropical.
*Passengers and drivers are required to wear masks, hand sanitizer will be provided, enhanced cleaning throughout the day, vents and some windows will be open to increase circulation and please practice social distancing.
